Dietary indole compounds found in broccoli, cabbage, and other cruciferous vegetables exert a strong protective effect on tissues such as breast, cervix, and prostate that are most susceptible to the effects of undesirable estrogen metabolites, such as 16-alpha hydroxy-estrone. Indole compounds favorably influence steroid hormone metabolism and help rebalance estrogen in favor of 2-hydroxyestrone, a protective estrogen metabolite. Dietary indoles also stimulate liver detoxification enzymes, inhibit DNA damage, and regulate cell cycle progression.

Indole-3-carbinol (I3C), the most prominent dietary indole, readily breaks down in the presence of stomach acid into diindolylmethane (DIM) and other associated indole compounds that are subsequently absorbed. Although diindolylmethane has been claimed to be the preferred form for dietary supplementation, we find the available published evidence does not adequately support this conclusion. The bulk of scientific data reports benefits from taking I3C. Data in direct support of taking DIM alone is suggestive but still inconclusive. Rather, it appears that the total content of dietary indoles is most relevant. Our Healthy Estrogen Support contains I3C, DIM, and other indoles for more complete protection. Increased indole intake may be especially important for women or men with estrogen-dominant health conditions.

  • Adenomyosis at 11/10/11 7:39 AM
    • I just found out that I have adenomosis. Do you think that DIM +I3C could help with the problem. If so, in what way
    • Hello - Adenomosis is common in women with elevated estrogen levels. Thus, reducing excess estrogen levels must be a first step in reducing adenomosis. Excess estrogens can be due to various reasons. Most commonly, excess estrogen is due to: - birth control pills - antacids - excess weight - xenoestrogens such as plastic - lack of beneficial bacteria in the digestive system - inflammatory oils such as omega 6 excess - lack of nutrients to metabolize estrogen The ideal way to reduce adenomosis then is to: - use a different birth control method, such as family planning, instead of birth control pills - obtain a healthy weight by exercising and changing food choices - heal the acid reflux and get off antacids as many block the liver from being able to metabolize (process) hormones and toxins - optimizing thyroid and adrenal function - optimizing liver function - replenishing beneficial bacteria in the digestive system as they help process toxins in the environment which may contribute to excessive estrogen levels - namely BPA - replenish nutrients so the liver can effectively metabolize estrogens DIM + I3C is useful in helping reduce excess estrogens.by stimulating the liver to do so. I recommend you take 1 to 2 capsules daily with food. I also recommend you consider eliminating ALL plastic in your home from which you eat and drink from. Switch to glass or stainless steel or lead free ceramic. Plastic is very estrogen promoting. To reduce inflammation and increase essential fatty acids, I recommend you consider taking 2 capsules of Optimal Fish Oil with food each day. http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-fish-oil-60-softgels.html Supporting your liver with nutrients is critical in helping it reduce estrogen levels. Consider taking 1 capsule twice daily with food. http://www.healthegoods.com/liver-nutrients-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html Support general health and well being with a multivitamin. If deficient in specific minerals and B vitamins, this leads to more sugar cravings and mood imbalances. An effective multivitamin helps reduce these situations.Consider taking 3 capsules with breakfast and 3 with lunch. http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-multivitamin-240-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html A probiotic that is potent and contains strains which are specific to helping prevent absorption of environmental chemicals and toxins is useful. ProBiota 12 contains bacteria which have been shown to absorb and reduce absorption of BPA. Also, a properly functioning digestive system increases absorption of nutrients and encourages a more regular bowel movement which is essential in eliminating metabolites created by the liver. http://www.healthegoods.com/probiota-12-maximum-support-50-billion-cfus-twelve-species-probiotic-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html So - a long answer to say - Yes, DIM + I3C may help adenomyosis by helping the liver process estrogen metabolites. However, that is not the only thing necessary to obtain healthy estrogen levels. Keep us posted how you do with these suggestions! We love to hear great news! In health, Dr Ben

  • adenomyosis at 1/16/12 10:28 PM
    • Im 34 years old, married but no children. My OB doctor told me that i have adenomyosis, what can you recommend on this?
    • Hello - I recommend DIM + I3C - you are right ;) Consider taking 1 capsule with breakfast and 1 capsule at lunch. I also recommend the following: - avoid eating, drinking and cooking out of plastic - limit eating canned foods - exercise - support your liver with sulfur-containing foods such as cabbage, broccoli, garlic, onions, asparagus, artichokes - castor oil packs over your liver and uterus - cover the entire abdominal area once a day for 20 to 30 minutes with a soaked castor oil pack. Learn how to do these on YouTube - find a video that you resonate with. Also consider: - ProBiota 12: one capsule after dinner to help assist your body eliminate excessive estrogens and process xenoestrogens http://www.healthegoods.com/probiota-12-maximum-support-50-billion-cfus-twelve-species-probiotic-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html - Liver Nutrients: one capsule with dinner to help assist your body eliminate excessive estrogens and process xenoestrogens (sound familiar?!) http://www.healthegoods.com/liver-nutrients-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html - Vitamin D360: consider taking 3 drops daily or 20 drops once a week to replenish vitamin D3 levels - necessary for proper hormone support. http://www.healthegoods.com/vitamin-d360-by-seeking-health.html These suggestions should help balance your estrogen levels and thereby improve your condition of adenomyosis. Keep me posted how you do. Best Dr Ben

  • Hpv genital warts at 2/25/12 2:19 PM
    • Will this product help in eliminating the hpv virus from the body by strengthening the immune system and elimate warts? Concerned male in mid 30s.
    • Hello - DIM + I3C is not intended to help with warts. I recommend you consider three things to improve your immune system: - ProBiota 12: take 2 capsules after dinner http://www.healthegoods.com/probiota-12-maximum-support-50-billion-cfus-twelve-species-probiotic-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html - Vitamin D360: take 6,000 IU of vitamin D3 for 3 months and then have your doctor check your levels again. Your vitamin D3 levels should be around 45-55 http://www.healthegoods.com/vitamin-d360-by-seeking-health.html - Optimal Zinc: take 10 mg of zinc per 2.2 pounds of body weight per day. Always take Optimal Zinc with some food. Research shows effective wart resolution in 1 to 2 months on this level of zinc intake: http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-zinc-60-capsules-seeking-health.html If you weigh 150 pounds, you will need 69 mg of Optimal Zinc. That is 4 capsules daily. I recommend you consider taking 1 capsule in the AM with breakfast, 1 at lunch and 2 at dinner. After 2 months, stop taking Optimal Zinc and switch to a comprehensive multivitamin with all important minerals and vitamins. Consider Optimal Multivitamin and take 3 capsules in the AM with breakfast and 3 at lunch: http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-multivitamin-240-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html You may want to directly apply ZymaDerm to the warts also http://www.healthegoods.com/zymaderm-formula-4.html I would also apply this liquid zinc to the affected areas: http://www.healthegoods.com/zinc-liquid-mineral-2-2-fl-ounces-bottle-bodybio.html These suggestions should greatly help you. • Ovarian cysts at 2/28/12 8:45 PM
    • I am not sure what my estrogen levels are, but I have ovarian cysts and I am overweight as well. Would this product be useful for me? I have lab tests that show high levels of pcbs as well as other toxins, which I am sure contributed to my condition.

Also, is this completely natural? If I took it and did not have high estrogen would there be any problem with having taken it?

      Thanks.
    • Hello - If your estrogen levels are low or normal, and you take DIM + I3C, it could cause dry skin, vaginal dryness and weak bones - not good. If you are overweight and have ovarian cysts, the likelihood of elevated estrogen exists. The other likelihood is you may have elevated insulin levels. DIM + I3C is completely natural - comes from vegetables. Ask your doctor to check your female hormones along with testosterone - and insulin levels along with fasting glucose. Best Dr Ben

  • 78 male with low testosterone, prostate cancer (still inside prostrate) at 5/13/12 8:13 PM
    • I have above plus 'belly fat' and starting to have flabby breasts....should I take Myomin or DIM-13C? Please advise. Thank you. Tom
    • Hi Tom -

It is hard to say which one to take first. I would actually not start out with lowering your estrogen levels; I'd rather focus on dietary changes, exercise, and supporting your adrenal glands.

Consider eating smaller but more frequent meals throughout the day with some form of protein along with taking 1 capsule of B Complex Plus with breakfast and 1 with lunch.

I'd also consider using Whey Slim and mixing 1 scoop in a smoothie along with frozen berrier and Optimal Fish Oil (which tastes good).

These suggestions are more suitable for long term success.

  • Fibroids & heavy Periods at 6/13/12 12:25 PM
    • Hi there

I have large fibroids and very heavy periods for many years (18 years!). I take an iron supplements which has prevented me becoming anaemic. In the past 2 years my sleep has also become severly disturbed I think this might be due to my estrogen levels.

I have taken many natural things to try and reduce the size of the fibroids and reduce the periods but nothing has ever worked for me.

For the past 6 months I have been taking I3c plus enzymes but they have done nothing either!

Can Myomin be taken with DIM & I3c?

Any other suggestions you might have would be appreciated.

I am 51 years of age and the only sign of the menopause so far is the sleep disturbances!!

      Linda
    • Hi Linda -

DIM + I3C and Myomin may be taken together if your estrogen levels are elevated.

You must have you doctor monitor your estrogen levels as they should not get too low.

There are many reasons why fibroids and irregular menses may be prevelant. Without knowing more information, it is difficult to make additional recommendations.

I can give more general recommendations:

      • avoid all plastic container use
      • do not eat out of canned foods
      • discuss with your doctor about using sauna to detoxify - slowly
      • castor oil packs over your liver nightly
      • supporting healthy bacteria in the digestive tract with ProBiota 12 to help increase elimination of feces. Inadequate bowel movements are an issue.
      • eating appropriately - whole foods diet
      • losing weight - optimizing weight as estrogen is made from fat cells also
      • vitamin d3
      • iron
      • magnesium
      • chia seeds

For more one on one help and to establish a plan, a consult may be useful for you. If you'd like to schedule a consult, please call 800-689-8221 and RSVP.

I look forward to hearing how your fibroids are reducing ;)

      In health,

      Dr Ben

    • Taking I3C over time I developed hot flashed, when I stoped it for a week and taking a one a day my hot flash went away.
Is there a relation between consuming I3C and hot flash?
      Thank you
      Gia
    • Gia -

DIM + I3C is very effective at helping lower estrogen levels.

I highly recommend you have your estrogen and progesterone levels tested as directed by your doctor.

It is not good to lower them too much so please check what your estrogen levels are now. If they are still elevated, then continue to take DIM + I3C as directed by your doctor.

      Thanks
