DIGESTRON FOR HEARTBURN

Digestron is an herbal supplement containing Paeonia, Poria, Cinnamomum, Atractylodes, Codonopsis, Alpinia, Coptis, Dioscorea, and Piper. It is not a digestive enzyme. Rather, it increases secretion of digestive enzymes and reduces bloating and gas. Additionally, it helps normalise stomach acidity and controls involuntary stomach/intestinal muscle contractions for better food digestion. Because Digestron reduces H. pylori, it is also beneficial to GERD caused by the bacteria. It also strengthens and repairs stomach and intestinal membranes that might have been damaged through GERD and other digestive disorders. Table 1 lists the various functions of Digestron.

Additional supplements for GERD included Asparagus Extract, AGG, Bamboo Extract and CFC. Since bacteria grows in acidic conditions, Asparagus Extract helps turn your body alkaline, making it difficult for the bacteria to grow. AGG contains astragalus, which promotes the body's immunity. CFC is good for controlling yeast, which originates in the colon. Acidophilus is also beneficial for this purpose. If belching causes sore throat and burning, add Bamboo Extract. It has anit-microbial activity, which is especially good for the esophagus.

    • I have had IBS for over 33 years. Lately I seem to have incomplete bowel movements, leaving me feel bloated and very uncomfortable. I eat a macrobiotic diet and take Probiotics and flax oil. However, nothing seems to help. Any suggestions???
    • Hello -

Consider eliminating all grains and dairy products for two weeks and see how you feel. Starting here is a good first step.

    • i have diverticulitis and gastroparesis. about 3 months ago i had a polyp removed during an endoscopy and now i have an ulcer that was created from the removal.
my health care person has suggested that i take digestron and asparagus which i am doing, also taking acidoplphus reg. reading the above not sure if this is correct>
I have had a few stomach infections in the past and trying to avoid that again, plus i need to keep the food moving.
    • Hello -

The suggestions you received are quite good.

If you have an ulcer, then I recommend the addition of ZCG 500 - 1 capsule three times daily or as recommended by your physician.

You may also find benefit from Optimal Turmeric - 1 capsule two to three times daily or as recommended by your physician.

To further support healing and prevention, consider taking 1 to 3 teaspoons daily of Optimal Liposomal Vitamin C.

  • Digestron for dogs at 5/12/12 11:00 AM
    • Hi my dog had been diagnosed with IBD- Irritable Bowel Disease, is Digestron safe for him to take and have you had any past experience with people using Digestron for their dog? My homeopathic doctor recommended trying it. Thanks for any info
    • Hello,

Chi Enterprises has told us that Digestron is safe for dogs, although you would want to lower the dosage. They recommend taking the dogs weight and use that as a percentage of the recommended human dosage. For example; if your dog weights 20 lbs. you would want to use 20% of the recommended human dose from the bottle.

  • frequently bowel,poor digestion at 5/2/12 6:33 PM
    • is this is suitable for weak digestion? cause everytime i eat it follow by bowel.
    • For weak digestion, I recommend you consider:

      - Pro-Digestion Intensive: consider taking 1 to 2 capsules with each meal- PreGestion: consider taking 1 to 2 capsules with each meal- ProBiota 12: consider taking 1 to 2 capsules after dinner

I'd also evaluate what you are eating. If you suspect any foods which are causing digestive problems. consider eliminating that food.

These recommendations should really help your digestive system and help you absorb your nutrients.

      In health,

      Dr Ben

Wheat and dairy products are commonly problems for many people. Consider stopping eating wheat and dairy for 2 weeks to see if you improve.

  • IBS at 5/2/12 8:59 AM
    • Could this help my with mother who has suffered from severe IBS for years?
    • Hello -

IBS is one of those conditions that has many causes and they all need to be addressed in order to make it go away for good.

I can help your mother with her IBS and I highly recommend a consult so I can guide her through it step by step.

To start helping, consider the following:- ProBiota 12 Powder: consider taking 1/4 teaspoon after dinner for 1 week and then increase to 1/2 teaspoon after dinner and stay on that until the bottle is gone. Then reduce back down to 1/4 teaspoon and stay on that amount for a few months.

      - Eliminate wheat and dairy from her diet

      - Sublingual Active B12 with Metafolin: consider taking 1/2 tablet for 1 week in the AM and then increase to 1/2 tablet in the AM and another 1/2 tablet before lunch. If tolerating well, increase to 1 tablet in the AM - allow to dissolve under the tongue - and also another full tablet before lunch.

       - Pro-Digestion Intensive: consider taking 1 to 2 capsules with each meal to support digestion and absorption of nutrients.

These recommendations will help her get started.

Again, a consult is highly recommended as IBS can be stubborn and all areas need to be evaluated.

    • hello! i would like to know if digestron is suitable for weak digestion? cause everytime i eat it follow by bowel and body weakness and even the drug i take not digest.
    • Hello -

Digestron is a good supplement to help digest foods.

However, if your digestion is really bad, then I recommend a consult so we can go over lifestyle and dietary changes.

Supplements are useful for digestive disorders but diet and lifestyle changes are also very critical.

To RSVP a consult with me, please call 800-689-8221 and our team can set it up for you.

Given your symptoms, I highly recommend this route of action as it is the most likely to benefit you long term - and short term. Guessing which supplement you need without any direction may just frustrate you and not provide a resolution.

I'd like nothing more than to hear that your digestion is now working perfectly - and it likely can if the right suggestions are put into place.

    • Have had heartburn for 30 years. I am now taking Nexium, would Digestron
help the same as the Nexium.
    • Hello - Digestron does not work the same as Nexium. Please watch this video - you don't need to watch all but the first few minutes will give you an idea how to recover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdTxzURDbUk&feature=player_embedded I recommend you use Intestinal Repair Complex, ZCG 500, Saccharomyces Boulardii and Manuka Honey. All may be found here: http://www.healthegoods.com/natural-treatment-products/chronic-gastritis-treatment.html As you improve, talk with your doctor about easing off of Nexium. Best Dr Ben

    • also, inulin contain in Probiota 12 powder, a kind of prebiotic. Since i need to avoid Probioita Immune (prebiotic as well), shouldn't I avoid inulin too?
    • The amount of inulin in ProBiota 12 is minimal compared to the amount found in ProBiota Immune or ProBiota Base. It is fine to take ProBiota 12 Powder or ProBiota 12 capsules. The issue with ProBiota Base or ProBiota Immune is if you are taking them alone without billions of probiotics. The gas and bloating issue can be quite uncomfortable with those unless you are taking a high dose of ProBiota 12 Powder. Again, taking any of these is fine but the ideal situation is to first build up with a ton of beneficial bacteria first and then begin taking the ProBiota Immune or ProBiota Base - depending on the situation. The billions of beneficial bacteria found in ProBiota 12 Powder need Inulin to survive - this is why it is in the container - it was what they feed on. The harmful bacteria will not have much chance to feed on the inulin from ProBiota 12 Powder as you are loading your digestive system up with billions of beneficial bacteria which will help knock the harmful bacteria out. • Microbial Defense before each meal. -->Do I need to wait like 30-60 minutes? "Do not exceed this dose." What is the side effect?

Can I use "olive leaf extract, grapefruit seed extract, oregano oil, peppermint oil" instead of Microbial Defense as I have this in my cabinet now? Are they having the same purpose?

Is Berberine Sulfate a kind of Spice like Turmeric? Safe for gastritis too?

ProBiota 12 Powder after dinner --> right after dinner? But PreDigestion was taken along with dinner as well. Wouldn't the acid kill the Probiotics?

How many "Ice Pack" do I need if I purchase 2x ProBiota 12 Powder, 4x Saccharomyces Boulardii?

Pro-Digestion have Bromelain. I read somewhere gastritis should avoid it? Myth?

      Thanks ~
    • Yes - you make take what you have in your cabinet now - what you told me you have is quite good. Berberine sulfate is not a 'spice' and is ok to take with gastritis. Remember that gastritis is partially caused by harmful bacteria - so taking things which kill those is important. Berberine is very potent against many harmful microbes. If you take too much berberine, it is very anti-microbial so you may get a die-off reaction - which people call 'herxheimer reaction' If you do get such a reaction, reduce the amount of anti-microbials used and also supplement with Optimal Vitamin C Powder to offset the reaction. Many suggest that taking berberine in too high amounts is toxic to the liver. Research is showing that it depends on how you take berberine. If one takes berberine orally, it is very hard to reach a toxic dose - if not impossible - read here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20138204 The key sentence from the research abstract about Berberine: "we discovered an interesting phenomenon indicating that the absorption of berberine by oral administration has a limit, therefore, explaining the difficulty in obtaining an LD(50) (LD50 = level of toxicity measurement) of berberine for intragastric (oral) injection" PreGestion: take with any main meal after the first few bites. ProBiota 12: take after dinner. I typically recommend people to take ProBiota 12 Powder after they brush their teeth at night so they get the benefit of reduced risk of cavities. The beneficial bacteria found in ProBiota 12 Powder also keep the harmful cavity-causing bacteria at a minimum. Thus, take ProBiota 12 Powder directly by mouth or in a bit of water, swish for a few seconds and then swallow. ProBiota 12 and all ProBiota supplements are protected against stomach acid with a natural polysaccharide. The pH of the stomach ideally is about 1-3 on an empty stomach. The pH of the stomach with food in it is usually about 3-5. The pH of the stomach when someone takes antacids (BAD) = 7 ProBiota probiotics are shelf stable for 2 months in temperatures of 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Two ice packs should be fine as we also pack the probiotics in a foil-lined package to help insulate. Given that you are healing your stomach lining with L-Glutamine for the gastritis - and also supplementing with Manuka Honey and probiotics - the amount of bromelain from Pro-Digestion is not going to bother your gastritis especially when you take the Pro-Digestion with meals. Do not take digestive enzymes on an empty stomach - ever - unless told to by your physician. Dr Ben

    • Hi again, I have read the above blog. From what I understand so far from the article, it said to cure gastritis we need to use antibiotic to kill the bacteria first. Then the stomach acid return to normal when inflammation gone (cure). So by supplementing HCI (acid), it can kill those bacteria as well, and eventually HEAL the inflammation when those bacteria dead? Is that what you mean DR. Ben?

Also, when should I know I need to stop taking HCI since I can't know if my stomach is produce acid normally acid. If I take HCI and Digestron at the same time, will it overload? Thank you.

I have stop taking PPI drug for 2 weeks now because all of sudden I developed massive gas/bloating in my lower intestine (mostly right side, URQ & LRQ), no matter what I eat even just Spinach. Dr prescribed medication to slow down my intestine as he think it move too fast and thus causing food not digested in small intestine and fermented in colon. I have taken it for a week, but still the same. Extreme bloating and gassy, warm sensation, slight pain on side where more bloating. I also take digestive enzymes all the while... till now... so I guess it doesn't help either. Include Probiotic, Ginger, Turmeric... still same. Do you have any idea what's wrong or suggestion on supplement that might help? Could I possibly have SIBO or ....? My stomach no pain already, but belching still around me, also rumbling gurgling here and there. Thank you for your time.

Here is the list that I will be include in my cart (the other suggested by Dr. Ben I have already):
      Probiota 12 Powder (probiotic)
      Digestron (enzyme)
      PreGestion (acid)
      Taurine (bile)
      Water Bottle
      Magnesium Plus
      Probiota Immnune

      Correct me if overdose. Thanks.

    • You asked: From what I understand so far from the article, it said to cure gastritis we need to use antibiotic to kill the bacteria first. Then the stomach acid return to normal when inflammation gone (cure). So by supplementing HCI (acid), it can kill those bacteria as well, and eventually HEAL the inflammation when those bacteria dead? Is that what you mean DR. Ben? YES - you got it. Also, when should I know I need to stop taking HCI since I can't know if my stomach is produce acid normally acid. If I take HCI and Digestron at the same time, will it overload? Thank you. YOU know when you can eat a meal without PreGestion or Pro-Digestion (or Digestron) without any gas or bloating. If you still have gas and bloating, then consider still supplementing with a capsule of Pro-Digestion (or Digestron) and PreGestion. I do not recommend the use of ProBiota Immune currently. Do not purchase that now. I explain later here. Also adding in ProBiota 12 Powder is highly recommended to keep out the harmful bacteria and beneficial bacteria in ProBiota 12 Powder help fend off the bad ones. You will experience increased gas and bloating by taking ProBiota 12 Powder and the Saccharomyces Boulardii. This is due to the pathogenic bacteria dying off. To prevent a headache from the die-off, consider taking 1 teaspoon of Optimal Vitamin C Powder in a large glass of filtered water and drink in the AM and also mix another batch in the afternoon. http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-vitamin-c-powder.html Do be careful with the PreGestion and Digestron. Make sure to take those with a meal. If you get burning from them, wait a bit longer to take them. Your stomach lining needs more healing if you still feel burning. You are missing L-Glutamine Powder. I highly recommend you consider taking 10 grams of L-Glutamine Powder twice daily before meals. Or you can mix 20 to 30 grams of L-Glutamine Powder in a liter water bottle and drink it throughout the day - between meals. This way, you are constantly feeding your stomach lining and small intestine with the number one nutrient to heal the lining. http://www.healthegoods.com/l-glutamine-powder-300-grams.html NOTE: You can add a scoop or two of Optimal Vitamin C Powder to your water bottle mixed with L-Glutamine Powder and you have yourself a very healing beverage. It is impossible for me to know if you have SIBO or not. If you are uncomfortable, do go see your doctor and get checked out. What I can interpret from your comment is that you do have some bacterial imbalance that needs to be addressed by supplementing with very high doses of probiotics, increasing stomach acid and wiping out the potentially harmful bacteria. Given the excessive gas and bloating, I recommend you consider taking 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of ProBiota 12 Powder after dinner. You need to really flood your intestines with beneficial bacteria. Do this for about 1 month and then reduce to about 1/4 teaspoon for another 2 weeks and then down to 1/8 teaspoon for maintenance dose. I highly recommend you consider Saccharomyces Boulardii as well to fend off the potential harmful bacteria. Saccharomyces boulardii is very good against Giardia and Clostridium difficile along with other pathogenic bacteria. Consider taking 6 capsules twice a day for 3 weeks and then reduce down to 2 capsules a day for a month and then stop completely. http://www.healthegoods.com/saccharomyces-boulardii-microbial-balance-support-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html Microbial Defense may be needed here as well as it is geared to kill yeast, some bacteria, some viruses and other unwanted pathogens. Consider taking 2 capsules in the morning before breakfast, 2 before lunch and 2 before dinner. Do not exceed this dose. Doing this for 1 month is likely all that is needed but impossible to say exactly. http://www.healthegoods.com/microbial-defense.html Herbal Melange contains humic acid and other compounds which harmful bacteria do not like. Herbal Melange also encourages healthy bowel movements without acting as a laxative. Consider taking a large 'gulp' upon waking and a couple times during the day between meals. Do not take Herbal Melange within 2 hours of taking ProBiota 12 Powder as it may interfere with the probiotics attaching themselves to your intestinal lining (which they are supposed to do). So take Herbal Melange in the morning upon waking, a couple more times during the day and the last dose around 6 PM. Herbal Melange is found here: http://www.healthegoods.com/herbal-melange-8-ounces-norimoor.html You will not need any more Herbal Melange beyond the one bottle. I am not sure if you need ProBiota Immune unless you are sensitive to foods, have an autoimmune condition, asthma or other reactive condition. I do not recommend obtaining ProBiota Immune at this time. Nor do I recommend ProBiota Base at this time. ProBiota Base or ProBiota Immune may be useful in 2 months down the line - once you get the excessive gas and bloating gone. If you take either one now, they may increase the gas and bloating. ProBiota Base may be more suitable if you simply want to restore beneficial bacteria. http://www.healthegoods.com/probiota-base-150-grams.html Keep me posted. In health, Dr Ben

    • Can it taken in the middle of meal instead of before meal empty stomach? Also, above reply, why gastritis need to supply with PreGestion since gastritis person normally avoid acidic stuff? Tq
    • You may take Digestron with a meal - no problem. Once the lining of your stomach doesn't burn anymore for you, I recommend the addition of PreGestion because many times acid reflux and gastritis are caused by a lack of stomach acid. It seems counter-intuitive but it is true. Read this: http://www.scienceblog.com/community/older/2002/B/20026241.html In health, Dr Ben
