Support for the management of ulcers and gastritis

GastroMend-HP is a blend of botanical extracts and nutrient complexes with specific antimicrobial and mucosal healing properties. This novel combination of substances delivered in a quick-release capsule for action in the stomach and duodenum provides a new tool in management of ulcers and gastritis by addressing both the eradication of H. pylori and the healing of the mucosal tissue.

GastroMend-HP contains:

  • Mastic, a resinous substance from a tree originally native to the island of Chios in Greece, has a long historic use in the Mediterranean and Middle-east regions of the world where it has been chewed like gum in the treatment of stomach pain for centuries.
  • Methylmethioninesulfonium, a derivative of methionine found in raw cabbage, is often referred to as “vitamin u” because of its history of treating peptic ulcers. The use of raw cabbage juice has been studied extensively, particularly in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union, for the healing of damaged and eroded intestinal mucosa.
  • Deglycerized licorice (DGL) - a well established anti-ulceration and mucosal healing botanical.
  • Zinc-carnosine (PepZin-GI) was chosen due to the exciting literature that has been emerging showing the impressive anti-H. pylori and mucosal protective and anti-ulcerative properties this compound, including the ability to protect the intestinal lining against damage due to indomethacin and other strong anti-inflammatory medications often associated with intestinal mucosal damage.
  • Vitamin C provides anti-H. pylori activity and tissue healing ability.

  • Most appropriate product for me? at 5/9/12 12:32 PM
    • Several months ago I had to take Motrin daily for several weeks. Several days later I began with daily burping, stomach burning, heartburn, gastric reflux. GP recommended Nexium which I am hoping not to take. Blood test for h. pylori was negative. I have been taking OTC Pepcid Complete that is helping a little bit.

I would like to try to approach this from a natural standpoint. Would GastroMend or Gastric Repair be more appropriate for me? Can I then take the Manuka Honey and L-Glutamine with that, and also the Pepcid AC if needed? Thank you!
    • Hello -

A blood test for H Pylori is not effective and not the Gold Standard for testing. A breath test for H Pylori is.

However, the stomach irritation may be due to the Motrin - that makes sense.

Consider GastroMend over Gastric Repair Complex and consider taking 2 capsules upon waking and 2 capsules upon going to bed. Another capsule may be taken midday between meals.

Adding 10 grams of L-Glutamine Powder to a liter water bottle and drinking throughout the day is also highly recommended.

Manuka Honey is likely not needed at the moment - try without first.

Try to not use the Pepcid at all if you can help it - of course, discontinue use only with your physician's approval.

Also work on limiting ingestion of these foods for now:

      - wheat, coffee, tea, chocolate, spices, tomatoes

This way your stomach lining can heal faster.

Your symptoms should greatly improve with GastroMend and L-Glutamine Powder. Should you need further support, do post a follow up question along with how you're doing.

    • I have followed your recommendations, using the Gastromend and L-Glutamine powder. My symptoms have improved tremendously to the point of almost being non-existent. At what point should I discontinue the supplements or is it safe to continue them for an extended period of time?

Also, if I needed to take Motrin again on a regular basis, is there something that can be taken with it to protect the stomache? If not, what would be a good alternative to use as an anti-inflammatory, as sometimes it is essential.
Thank you so much for your help!
    • Hello -

That's great you are doing so well ;)

Definitely continue the supplements for another three months to ensure proper healing. SImply because symptoms have reduced does not mean that you are fully healed in the lining. There are likely areas needing additional support.

It is safe to take these nutrients for an extended period of time.

I would like to see you use something else other than Motrin. I am not sure what you are using it for but there are MANY forms of pain relief and natural anti-inflammatories that are very effective.

Consider Optimal Turmeric by Seeking Health as it contains the most active form of curcumin. Consider taking 2 capsules of Optimal Turmeric as needed - up to three times daily.

Do not take Optimal Turmeric if you are taking MAO inhibititors.

I would also suggest you take 2 capsules of Optimal Fish Oil daily to help reduce inflammation and maintain healthy cell membranes.

And - one other nutrient to help reduce inflammation is Optimal Liposomal Vitamin C. Vitamin C is also useful to help rebuild collagen and other connective tissues which you may find useful for your stomach. Consider taking 1 teaspoon two to three times daily.

      In health,

      Dr Ben
