Hi Ben,

Thanks for the previous advise for my wife. She has just finished her Vancomycin infusion therapy and will be on an oral antibiotic for a few months.  She will need to take probiotics daily.  What do you folks offer in either powdered or other form?  She eats a small Danactive 4-5 times a week but I don't think that is enough.  Let me know please.  Thanks.

Hey there,

Congrats on step 1 complete - that's good news.

Danactive yogurt is not even close to sufficient. I am glad you are aware of that.

To prevent Clostridium difficile, Anne must take Saccharomyces boulardii - take as directed on the label.

To maintain digestive flora as best as possible, take Probiota 12 capsules or powder.

Take 2 hours away from the antibiotic. Ideally, take the antibiotic 2 hours before bed and then take ProBiota 12 before going to sleep with a touch of food such as celery and peanut butter or a spoon of almond butter.

Taking the ProBiota 12 at this time will give the beneficial bacteria to take hold overnight and help prevent candida and pathogenic bacteria from overpopulating her digestive system.

The ProBiota 12 capsules are less cost-effective but easy to take. If she desires the capsules, take 2 capsules at bedtime 2 hours away from the antibiotic. Two capsules provides 50 billion beneficial bacteria in 12 different strains.

If she prefers the ProBiota 12 powder, take 1/4 teaspoon which provides 100 billion beneficial bacteria in 12 different strains. It is not needed to take 200 billion bacteria at this point. Once she is done taking the antibiotics, then we'll talk about how to alter the dose.

I recommend taking the ProBiota 12 powder like this:
  • Get a spoon or fork
  • Use the tip of the handle, dip it into the container
  • Get a 1/4 teaspoon on the tip of the handle and put directly into the mouth.  It tastes just fine so no concern with that.
In summary,
Any questions, let me know.

In health,

Dr Ben
