My name is Yvonne I am a single mother of 4 who is desperate for some help and guidance for my 7 year old autistic son.
I just need to know what the best vitamins and minerals are to purchase for him. Please help!

Answer:
Hi Yvonne -

I am sorry that your son has symptoms of Austism.

This is a complex question as Autism has many different causes.

It is best to identify the cause of the autism, remove it and replenish with the needed nutrients.

Common places to start:
- remove all Gluten products and Rice Milk products. Autistic symptoms may greatly reduce when your son does not eat Gluten. There is much clinical evidence of this. Rice Milk contains a substance in it which also may aggravate your son's autism.

A product which has reduced symptomatic aggravation from rice milk and gluten containing foods is a probiotic called HLC MindLinx developed by a PhD.

An enzyme which helps digest Gluten may also be beneficial during the time you are transitioning Kelan off of gluten. There will likely be accidental ingestion of gluten while he is learning to avoid it. The product is called Glutenzyme

There are highly effective laboratory tests which help identify severe nutritional deficiencies and problem areas. This test is called the ION panel and is provided by Metametrix.

I highly recommend that you do this test. It is an investment but it seriously reduces the amount of guesswork of what to give your son. The test also suggests what amounts to give.

I recommend calling Metametrix and asking which additional labs to obtain.

I would recommend:
- Pediatric ION Panel
- Add-on IgG Food Allergen Profile
- Add-on Chemistry Panel

There are other exams which may prove useful. However, it is best to start with these and then see if others are necessary.
The Metametrix website which lists the available labs:
http://www.metametrix.com/content/DirectoryofServices/DOSCategories

I can order these tests for you at a reduced cost. Let me know if you would like them.

Visit this website:

We do carry many nutritional products which may help your son; however, I do not want to bombard you financially without figuring out what the nutritional deficiencies are.

Common deficiencies are:
- Magnesium
- B6
- B12
- Zinc
- Phosphatidyl Choline

Common excesses/problems/causes:
- Gluten sensitivity
- Mold sensitivity and exposures
- Vaccinations
- Nutrient deficiency
- Metabolic aberrations causing nutrient deficiencies
- Essential Fatty Acid deficiencies

Do ask additional questions as they arise.

Keep me posted on the lab testing.

You will overcome this and so will Kielan.

In health,
Dr Ben
