This is the follow up email written after the Free 15 Minute Phone Consult regarding: Supplements, etc., for chemotherapy (have 2 blood cancers, MPD and newly diagnosed MDS), and hemachromatosis
The Phone Consult Podcast Recording:
"Chemotherapy & Supplements to Reduce Toxicity"
My follow up email to Theresa following the consult:
Theresa -
I entered your zipcode into Scorecard and found out that your area is very high in Dichloromethane. This chemical is a known carcinogen and blood toxicant, which, when combined, may lead to blood cancers. I find this connection quite related and a potential cause of your blood cancers. I recommend you talk with your Oncologist and an Environmental Medicine physician how to detox from dichloromethane.
Here is the summary of research that I discussed with you on the phone about Melatonin and cancer.
You may find a potent liquid form of melatonin here. Consider taking 15 to 30 drops of Melatonin (20 mg to 40 mg) at bedtime.
Glutamine:
Glutamine, as discussed, is required for your intestinal lining to get repaired from the damage of chemotherapy. The glutamine will help prevent mouth ulcers and restore your intestines ability to absorb nutrients.
Consider taking 10 grams three times a day. Mix in 8 to 10 oz of filtered water or mix in a smoothie with frozen blueberries and fish oil.
A great tasting fish oil that is tested for impurities and potent is Finest Pure Fish Oil.
Consider adding 1 teaspoon of Finest Fish Oil to your glutamine/frozen blueberry smoothie each day. Two to three teaspoons of Finest Fish Oil would be even better.
Fiber:
I forgot to mention that fiber is needed to help bind the excess chemotherapy and heal the digestive system from the harmful effects of chemotherapy. Combined with Glutamine, your digestive system will be significantly improved giving your more energy and less, or no more mouth blisters.
Consider adding a ½ scoop to 1 scoop of Ultra Fiber Plus to your Glutamine smoothie.
Take daily.
Folinic Acid
I am not sure if you can find a liquid folinic acid. I have never seen one. Have your doctor get you a Folinic Acid in the form of Calcium Folinate. The other form is 5-MTHF or 5-methyltetrahydrofolate.
Here is a monograph of 5-MTHF (see attached documents below) which you may read and share with your Oncologist.
I am not sure if you are able to use a sauna to detox the dichloromethane. Discuss with your Oncologist.
Sweating via Sauna
I would like to see you in a low temperature infrared sauna for a couple hours a day (spaced out over time). Temperature could be 105 degrees F and staying there long durations will encourage the solvents to be secreted through your breathing and skin via sweat.
Definitely discuss this with your Oncologist before you go do it.
Hemochromotosis
Your hemoglobin count is low due to the chemotherapy. We cannot raise it well because of chemotherapy and because hemoglobin requires increased iron levels.
We cannot raise your iron levels.
I am hoping that folinic acid will help raise your hemoglobin count. It is vastly superior to folic acid.
Again, to help bind excess iron, drink black tea during meals.
Do follow up with me in a month or less and let me know how you are doing – energy wise and what you have found out regarding dichloromethane.
In health,
Dr Ben
