Selenium and Thyroiditis
There is a huge link between low selenium and thyroid issues.
These thyroid issues can be:
Hypothyroid
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
If someone is low in selenium, the thyroid hormone does not get activated well. There is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone which triggers the thyroid to release T4. The problem is T4 is not active. T4 gets converted to T3 to become active.
What makes T4 -> T3?
Yep - selenium.
Selenium is found in high amounts in Brazil nuts. You get about 400 mcg of selenium in about 7 Brazil nuts.
If you want to get selenium in a supplement, make sure you get seleniomethionine. It is the superior bio-available form. It isn't easy to find unfortunately. Amazing how many crappy supplements there are out there.
