Seeking Health Kids Optimal Multivitamin

A comprehensive vitamin/ mineral supplement designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. This physician-formulated vitamin/mineral supplement contains 28 highly bioavailable essential nutrients in amounts and ratios designed to address nutritional imbalances commonly observed in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Abnormal gastrointestinal function, including chronic diarrhea and malabsorption, affects a significant percentage of individuals with ASD and contributes to nutritional deficiencies.

Kid's Optimal Multivitamin by Seeking Health promotes better health in children with:

Essential vitamins, minerals, and trace elements to help optimize nutrient status: The amounts and ratios of the 28 nutrients in Kid's Optimal Multivitamin can help complement dietary intake and ensure that daily micronutrient needs are met. To help address the special needs of children with ASD, Kid's Optimal Multivitamin offers higher potencies for certain nutrients, enhanced antioxidant protection, broader trace element nutrition, and augmented B-vitamin support compared to most other children’s multivitamins.

Well-utilized nutrient forms: Nutrient “families” are used to provide a wider range of nutritional activity. For example, natural mixed carotenoids and vitamin E tocopherols are included to provide diverse antioxidant benefit. Concentrated citrus bioflavonoids are also added to help complement vitamin C activity. Biologically active forms of folate, B12, and B6: Children on the autism spectrum have been shown to have a variety of metabolic abnormalities that include impaired methylation and transsulfuration biochemistry. Significant amounts of the active forms of folate (5-methyltetrahydrofolate) and vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) are used as they are already fully “active” and ready for use by the body. Together these two vitamins can assist proper methylation and reduce the risk of toxic homocysteine build-up. The active coenzyme form of vitamin B6 (known as P-5-P), is also included to support transsulfuration pathways.

Bioavailable minerals and trace elements: Many common forms of minerals used in supplements are not efficiently absorbed. To address this concern, Kid's Optimal Multivitamin contains low molecular weight mineral compounds and other forms that are easily and comfortably digested.

Food elimination diets and a tendency among patients to be highly selective eaters further narrow dietary sources of essential nutrients. Kid's Optimal Multivitamin addresses these inadequacies by supplying balanced amounts of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements in forms that are typically well tolerated by patients with ASD. Active forms of folate, B12, and B6 are included along with naturally-sourced carotenes, vitamin E tocopherols, and vitamin D3 for optimal nutrient absorption and utilization. Iron and copper, often contraindicated in ASD, are excluded.

Kid's Optimal Multivitamin is free of common allergens, including dairy, wheat, corn, eggs, yeast, and gluten. No sugar, maltodextrin, stearates, artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, salicylates, or preservatives are used. This formula complies with Gluten-Free/Casein-Free (GFCF) and Specific Carbohydrate Diets (SCD™). For maximum tolerance and versatility as a foundational nutritional program, herbal ingredients are avoided.  This supplement in encased in two-piece capsules made from purified cellulose, so Kid's Optimal Multivitamin is suitable for vegetarians.

Suggested Use: Adults or children 4 years and older: 6 capsules daily with food.

About Seeking Health, the company

Dr. Ben Lynch, founder and Chief Medical Officer of Seeking Health, is a naturopathic physician. While majoring in Cell and Molecular biology at the University of Washington, Dr. Ben took a trip through the South Pacific and Southeast Asia that changed his outlook on traditional medicine, and his life.

During this trip, Dr. Ben hiked through the forests, mountains and coasts of Tasmania, worked a cattle ranch in the Outback of Australia, and volunteered with Mother Theresa in Calcutta. He lived in Fiji with a family having no electricity or plumbing, experienced the Himalayan Mountains of Northern India, worked a fruit orchard in New Zealand, and returned to America with an impression of a different form of medicine than he had ever experienced with his mainstream medical education.

This profound experience led Dr. Ben to Bastyr University, and he studied the Mind-Body Connection, Environmental Medicine, Functional Medicine, and Epigenetics.

Dr. Ben saw the huge need for people to obtain foundational nutrients, and Seeking Health was born. Without foundational nutrients, biochemical dysfunction occurs and causes symptoms. Doctor after doctor and person after person do not understand the absolute requirement for our bodies to have the tools to maintain function.

  • • Without water, we die.
  • • Without food, we die.
  • • Without probiotics, we get digestive disorders.
  • • Without multivitamins, we become depressed, fatigued and sick.

“If one supports their bodily systems, especially their digestion and mental health, with pure, highly absorbable, well-formulated nutrients, the ability to remain healthy and vital significantly increases. We want your foundation rock solid and we provide the tools to do so.”

-Dr. Ben Lynch, founder of Seeking Health

Seeking Health believes that the root cause for many health conditions and supplements stem from ineffective digestion, environmental exposures, poor diet, and lack of a healthy social outlet and inlet.

  • • Once digestion is restored and optimized with the best probiotics, digestive enzymes, stomach acid and intestinal repair nutrients, one is able to absorb nutrients from foods and high quality multivitamins.
  • • Once environmental exposures are reduced, one is able to reduce toxic burden which then frees up nutrients to work in promoting health and preventing disease.
  • • Once diet is optimized, nutrients flood in, energy increases, blood sugar stabilizes and the immune system balances.
  • • Creating a social outlet and inlet allows the parasympathetic nervous system to regain control over the reactive sympathetic nervous system, allowing countless nutrients to be used proactively and in a protective manner instead of being wasted on producing stress hormones.

Seeking Health is here to see you get better, and stay better. Their true passion is prevention.

Seeking Health is based in Bellingham, Washington and operated and managed by a team dedicated to bringing you better health through the best quality supplements, prebiotics, probiotics, and multivitamins.

Seeking Health brings you effective formulas produced without preservatives, colors, titanium dioxide, coloring, or gluten.

  1. great product Review by Stacey

My 7 year old has been taking these for almost a year. It's been the healthiest year she's ever had. I believe these are great quality vitamins!

  2. Kids Optimal Multi vitamin Review by Chris

A great vitamin, improved memory, better attention, better health. The only problem is the capsules could be smaller and we have to take so many. The benefits outway the capsule sizing. Your Order Number is: 100019722

    NOTE FROM DR BEN:
    Chris -

We have a new Chewable Optimal Multivitamin which your children may enjoy and gain benefit from. The nutrients found in it are very similar to the Kid's Optimal Multivitamin. Please abide by the suggested dosing on the label:

Questions on Seeking Health Kid's Optimal Multivitamins

  • Question at 9/26/11 3:26 PM
    • In what ways, other than having good vitamin/mineral intake, has this product helped children with autism?
    • Hello - Great question. Those with autism are known to have difficulty in absorbing nutrients and/or converting the nutrients into their active forms which the body utilizes. Those with autism are also known to have numerous allergens and sensitivities. Those with autism are also known to require very pure ingredients. Kid's Optimal Multivitamin meets these requirements. The capsule is vegetarian and without any flow agents, preservatives, caking agents making the ingredients easy for the body to breakdown and assimilate. Any supplement with magnesium stearate, titanium dioxides, vegetable stearate, tablet form or containing preservatives or coloring agents should not be consumed by those with autism - or anyone for that matter. The minerals found in Kid's Optimal are all chelated to an amino acid which makes them easy on the stomach and very well absorbed. There is no iron found in Kid's Optimal as iron should not be taken with calcium or those who do not require it. If iron is needed for your child - or for anyone - then Optimal Iron Plus Cofactors is highly absorbable and very easy on the stomach: http://www.healthegoods.com/best-iron-supplement.html The B vitamins are all very active forms making them easy to absorb. One of the most important nutrients, the folic acid, is in the latest researched form of 5-MTHF. Many with autism have a genetic defect preventing their body from utilizing folic acid. In order for the body to utilize folic acid, it has to be converted to the 5-MTHF form. If it is not, then it causes significant problems for the person - including neurological issues. I highly recommend all those with Autism be checked for a genetic mutation of MTHFR: http://www.healthegoods.com/mthfr-test.html I also recommend they test for inadequate methylation as it is very common that those with autism are hypomethylators: http://www.healthegoods.com/methylation-profile-doctors-data.html Kid's Optimal Multivitamin is free of common allergens, including dairy, wheat, corn, eggs, yeast, and gluten. For children without autism, Kid's Optimal is highly recommended as well as their body can utilize the ingredients effectively. There is no point in taking a multivitamin if the ingredients are inferior, packed in a tablet or contain additives which are potentially harmful to the body. In health, Dr Ben

  • Metafolin at 1/10/12 11:25 AM
    • Is metafolin the same as methyltetrahydrofolate? And can I split the capsules and give them to my daughter so she does not have to take the pills?
    • Hello - Yes, the methylfolate that we use in all Seeking Health products is Metafolin. You can open the capsules for your daughter if you like and mix in applesauce or juice. Or you also use our new chewable multivitamin which also has similar nutrients and is only using the most active forms - including methylfolate: http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-multivitamin-60-chewable-tablets-seeking-health.html We also have chewable Cal/Mag/D which she may benefit from as well: http://www.healthegoods.com/calcium-magnesium-3d-chewable-tablets-seeking-health.html In health, Dr Ben

  • biogenic amine food intolerance and citrus bioflavonoids.. at 2/6/12 1:22 PM
    • My son reacts to biogenic amines and salycilates. Any citrus degranulates histamine and so I'm afraid he'll react to your vitamins. As I'm pretty sure he (actually I'm probably not either) is not converting folic acid to Metafolin, would the the active B's in this vitamin counteract the citrus in this vitamin?

If not, then I'd probably be better off with the sublingual methycobalamin/Metafolin combo, although since his histamine is astronomical right now, and B12 will elevate it, maybe that's not such a hot idea either...

Do you sell a sublingual Metafolin by itself? Or even a hydroxyb12 sublingual would probably work...

2 weeks ago, I didn't know methylation from a hole in the wall... :-)

Now I'm sporting an opinion, go figure... :-)
    • Hello - If your son is reacting to salicylates, I highly recommend you consider molybdenum. Consider giving him 8 drops of Molybdenum daily for a month. Mix in some juice: http://www.healthegoods.com/natural-health-brands/molybdenum-liquid-mineral-7-body-bio.html Probiotics are likely needed as he is likely low in molybdenum due to a yeast overgrowth. Consider giving him 1/4 teaspoon of ProBiota 12 Powder after dinner: http://www.healthegoods.com/pro-biota-12-powder-maximum-support-200-billion-cfus-twelve-species-60-grams-seeking-health.html I also recommend 1 capsule of Saccharomyces Boulardii as a beneficial yeast - taken after dinner: http://www.healthegoods.com/saccharomyces-boulardii-microbial-balance-support-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html The DAO histamine enzyme is inhibited through harmful bacterial overgrowth which shifts histamine having to be pushed through a less prevalant HNMT enzyme which may be mutated - leading to histamine excess. Thus, it is critical to heal his gut and establish beneficial flora. Both ProBiota 12 and Saccharomyces Boulardii help with this. Antifungals are also important but first it is best to provide some beneficial flora. In terms of the citrus in this multivitamin, it is the citrus flavonoids which are beneficial; however, those who are highly sensitive may not do well with them. The methylfolate and methylcobalamin found in this multivitamin will help reduce histamine levels. Histamine is lowered through methylation and both methylcobalamin and methylfolate are methyl donors. You do not need hydroxycobalamin. Methylcobalamin does not raise histamine levels - it lowers them: http://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/bbb/64/10/2053/_pdf There is a ton of misinformation out there on the internet and methylation gets pretty complicated quickly. I am glad you are taking an active interest in learning - my hat is off to you. ;) I hope this response provides further insight for you. In health, Dr Ben

  • Gummy Vitamins at 5/31/12 5:38 PM
    • Hello,
I would like to know the Doctors thoughts on Gummy Multi Vitamins. Are they good for you?
    • Hello -

I am not a fan of gummy vitamins of any type.

They are loaded with sugars and typically very weak when it comes to nutrient content.

The closest to a quality multivitamin you can get that tastes good is with a chewable - and the best chewable multivitamin is the Optimal Multivitamin Chewable by Seeking Health,

      In health,

  • Dosing at 12/3/12 6:37 PM
    • How should I split the 6 capsules up throughout the day? I don't give them to my 9 yr old all at once do I? Thanks!
    • Hi!  Take the capsules daily with food, and the 6 capsules can be taken at different times of the day.  I suggest taking the capsules with breakfast and lunch.  Avoid taking them within 4-5 hours of bedtime, as I don’t want the B vitamins to keep your child awake at night.  You may also consider starting slowly.  For example, start with 1 capsule at breakfast and 1 at lunch for a few days.  If your child tolerates that, increase to 2 and 2 for a few days, and if that’s tolerated, increase to 3 and 3.

If it’s easier, the capsules may be opened and the nutrients mixed in with food or beverage (ie: applesauce, oatmeal, juice, yogurt, smoothie, etc.)  There are no flavorings or artificial flavors in Kid's Optimal Multivitamin so you don't have to hide the bad tasting flavorings - just the vitamins and minerals.  Experiment with it.

      Hope this helps!

  • Heterozygous A1298 mutation at 12/8/12 6:22 PM
    • Hi! We just received my 9 yr old sons genetic testing back and he has the heterozygous A1298c gene mutation. I have just ordered your optimal kids multivitamin, do you think that is enough or should he supplement other things as well. He has ADHD, frequent headaches, chest pains (however cardio has cleared heart), positive ANA blood test, poor reading abilities, complains often of aches and pains, has indigestion, vocal nodules, spina bifida occulta, accessory soleus muscle..... Rest of family is getting tested Monday.
    • Hi,

Congratulations on determining your son’s mutation.  I say congratulations because now you and your son’s health care provider have an accurate platform from which to base treatment options.

Has your son had his Vitamin D3 levels checked?  That is something to consider.  Vitamin D3 supports a healthy immune system, provides support for healthy bones and hormone formation, and supports healthy mood and neurotransmitter production, all especially important with the MTHFR mutation.   http://healthygoods.com/vitamin-d3-liquid-22-5-ml-pure-encapsulations.html

For the indigestion, consider treating the gut with probiotics, which promotes and supports healthy bacteria in the digestive tract.  Probiotics are necessary to strengthen immune system which is weakened in MTHFR mutations.  This specific probiotic provides 25 billion bacteria in 12 strains per capsule:  http://healthygoods.com/probiota-12-maximum-support-50-billion-cfus-twelve-species-probiotic-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html   Consider taking 1 capsule after dinner every night.

People with this mutation often do better on a completely wheat free diet.  I know this would be a huge dietary change and commitment.  Consider trying it for a month or two to determine whether you’re noticing a different in your son.

Here is a link to find a doctor or naturapath in your location.  I highly recommend you find someone with experience treating MTHFR, particularly when it comes to taking the B-vitamin supplements, as this takes a find balance and continuous follow up.  http://mthfr.net/mthfr-resources/
