Seeking Health Niacin provies 500mg of this essential B vitamin, also known as vitamin B3, necessary for many aspects of health, growth, and reproduction. Nicacin can also support elevated mood and digestive, skin, and nerve support. 100 tablets
Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, is naturally produced in the body and is found in many of the foods we eat. The benefits of niacin include improved circulation, lowered cholesterol, healthy skin, prevention of diabetes, and treatment for osteoarthritis. Niacin deficiency has also been linked to depression and anxiety.
Anxiety and Depression : Niacin deficiency can lead to depression, insomnia and anxiety. Left untreated, a niacin deficiency can cause dementia and pellagra, a serious disease that resembles schizophrenia. Niacin by Seeking Health can benefit persons with depression by relieving any symptoms that could be related to a deficiency of this important vitamin. Depressed patients are frequently deficient in the B vitamin complex. Furthermore, your body cannot store niacin, so you need adequate intake of this important vitamin every day.
Serotonin : In the brain, low levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin are associated with depression. One of the building blocks of serotonin is the amino acid tryptophan, and one of the building blocks of tryptophan is Niacin. Tryptophan also helps the body supply itself with Niacin. If tryptophan is divided between serotonin production and niacin production, serotonin production is likely to be inadequate. Supplemental niacin and tryptophan can improve symptoms of depression.
Improved Mood : The B vitamin Niacin is important for proper functioning of all cells, including the cells of the brain and nervous system. When the nervous system is working properly, symptoms such as restlessness, anxiety, mood swings and insomnia can be prevented. You will be more mentally alert when your body is properly supplied with the B vitamin complex, especially niacin. This can help you function better if you have depression and allow for maximum benefit from any other treatments you are receiving for depression, including medication and therapy.
Circulation : In spite of the many different cholesterol medications on the market one of the best benefits of Niacin is the lowering low-density lipoprotein or LDL cholesterol as well as triglyceride levels. In addition to lowering LDL, the bad cholesterol, B3 or niacin increases the good cholesterol HDL or high-density lipoprotein levels. The HDL levels can be increased by as much as 15 to 35 percent, which is more significant than the 5 to 25 percent lowering of the LDL, which is still impressive nonetheless. If you have had a heart attack studies have shown that taking cholesterol-lowering drugs in combination with niacin can decrease the likelihood of a second heart attack.
Detoxification : Niacin has the well-known effect of causing "vasodilation", often called the niacin flush, which is an opening of the small blood vessels, the capillaries, so that more blood flows through them. These are the blood vessels which are of most value in reaching fatty tissues. In this way the toxins which are stored in these fatty tissues can be removed, into the bloodstream, and processed out of the body.
Healthy Skin : Niacin can help keep skin healthy and is used for a variety of skin problems, including inflammation, acne, rosacea, dull skin tone and sagging skin. Regular use can help reduce these problems. Niacin also helps the skin with moisture retention and aids skin’s elasticity and tone. You can use supplements but to increase the benefits of niacin on your skin, eat fish, meats, grains and green vegetables or other foods high in vitamin B3.
Osteoarthritis : Niacin has been found to increase joint mobility. Also Niacin can reduce joint and muscle fatigue along with increasing muscle strength. Therefore vitamin B3 has been successfully used to treat osteoarthritis. If high doses are taken the benefits of niacin can be seen in around three to four months. The anti-inflammatory effects of niacin have been proven to be effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis. Taking vitamin B3 has also shown to rebuild worn out cartilage in arthritis sufferers.
Niacin by Seeking Health is sustained in a slow release vegetarian capsule. The slow release of Niacin over several hours helps avoid the uncomfortable flushing action of this B-vitamin so that its full of benefits on cholesterol metabolism can obtained. The scored tablet allows for easier dosage adjustment as needed.
Suggested Use: 1 capsule daily with food.
Dr. Ben Lynch, founder and Chief Medical Officer of Seeking Health, is a naturopathic physician. While majoring in Cell and Molecular biology at the University of Washington, Dr. Ben took a trip through the South Pacific and Southeast Asia that changed his outlook on traditional medicine, and his life.
During this trip, Dr. Ben hiked through the forests, mountains and coasts of Tasmania, worked a cattle ranch in the Outback of Australia, and volunteered with Mother Theresa in Calcutta. He lived in Fiji with a family having no electricity or plumbing, experienced the Himalayan Mountains of Northern India, worked a fruit orchard in New Zealand, and returned to America with an impression of a different form of medicine than he had ever experienced with his mainstream medical education.
This profound experience led Dr. Ben to Bastyr University, and he studied the Mind-Body Connection, Environmental Medicine, Functional Medicine, and Epigenetics.
Dr. Ben saw the huge need for people to obtain foundational nutrients, and Seeking Health was born. Without foundational nutrients, biochemical dysfunction occurs and causes symptoms. Doctor after doctor and person after person do not understand the absolute requirement for our bodies to have the tools to maintain function.
“If one supports their bodily systems, especially their digestion and mental health, with pure, highly absorbable, well-formulated nutrients, the ability to remain healthy and vital significantly increases. We want your foundation rock solid and we provide the tools to do so.”
-Dr. Ben Lynch, founder of Seeking Health
