Pharmax High DHA Fish Oil with Essential Oil of Orange

High DHA Finest Pure Fish Oil 150 mL by Pharmax has significant anti-inflammatory properties, provides benefits in depressive disorders and improves cognitive function. However, the most notable area of omega-3 supplementation, where there is a distinct advantage of high levels of DHA compared to EPA, is during pregnancy and lactation. The recognized benefits of DHA supplementation include the fetal and neonatal development of brain and nerve tissue in the infant. It also has the potential to prevent post partum depression in the mother.

    • I have read that it is ideal for a ratio of at least 2:1 for dha/epa for cognitive and inflammatory conditions. Is this product good to take on a long term basis for these conditions?

      Thanks!
    • If you are not high in EPA, I don't recommend taking DHA only. You are right about the need of being in balance. Consider taking 2 capsules a day of Optimal Fish Oil capsules - or the Optimal Fish Oil Liquid (DHA amount posted tomorrow) http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-fish-oil-60-softgels.html If you have neurological inflammation, consider Optimal Brain. http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-brain-30-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html If you have systemic inflammation, consider Optimal Turmeric and start with 1 capsule a day and increase from there as needed. It is amazingly effective - more than I would have imagined. My clients are doing impressively well with it. http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-turmeric-100-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html In health, Dr Ben

    • In response to my earlier question and answer:

This does have both but the DHA is higher. I am not sure my levels, but curious if having more DHA will help better with cognitive decline?

Now that you mention the types of inflammation, do you find neurological inflammation to be common? Do you find that fish oil helps ALL types of inflammation?

I am sorry for all the questions, I am just learning about all the benefits of these oils.

      Thanks!
    • DHA does show benefit in those with cognitive decline. I do find neurological inflammation to be common. There is actually a leaky blood brain barrier issue and it is linked to toxins and food issues - such as...gluten. This is why I recommend Optimal Brain. If you are looking to cross the blood brain barrier, then Krill Oil is what is needed. This is more effective at crossing the BBB than regular fish oils. Consider Optimal Krill Oil if you are targeting your brain - and Optimal Brain. I don't like to make general statements like 'All types of inflammation' - I've already countered that by saying krill oil is superior for neurological inflammation compared to fish oil. ;) Best Dr Ben

    • Does this help to improve and calm autism children?
    • Hi Ann,

A large and growing body of scientific evidence indicates that fish oil benefits mental health and brain function in all stages of life.  EPA and DHA, the omega–3 essential fatty acids in fish oil, are particularly concentrated in the brain—an organ composed of nearly 60% fat—and the nervous system, where they provide necessary building blocks for healthy cells and tissue.  DHA, for example, constitutes 20% of the total fatty acids in the cerebral cortex, the outermost layer of the brain responsible for sophisticate information processing like memory and attention.

Children have the most to gain from these essential fats.  From prenatal babies to adolescents, children rely heavily on EPA and DHA for visual, brain and immune system development, and for normal emotional and cognitive function.  Much of this has to do with the rapid growth of the brain in childhood.  Aside from autism, only about 22% of children get enough essential fats so your child will more than likely benefit by the DHA regardless.

I'd like to take a moment to inform you of a forum you may want to consider: http://www.ch3nutrigenomics.com/phpBB2/index.php

Dr. Amy Yasko has some great information and there are like-minded parents, along with kids, trying to overcome autism.  Autism needs to be worked on from the foundation and outward.  It is very overwhelming for parents to try and determine what is best for their child if there is no plan.  I highly recommend you consider very specific lab testing for your child if you haven't done so already.  Also, if you haven't eliminated wheat and dairy from his diet, I HIGHLY encourage you to do so.  I wish you the best - and for your child. Autism is reversible under the right care!
