Prenatal Pro™ provides optimal supplementation for women wishing to become pregnant, pregnant women and lactating women.

The earlier supplementation begins the better because women need adequate nutrient stores to meet the greater nutrient demands for a growing baby such as calcium, iron and zinc. Nutrient deficiencies are associated with pregnancy complications, low birth weight and birth defects.

Prenatal Pro™ is the only prenatal multivitamin on the market to use NatureFolate™, a blend of natural folates, in place of synthetic folic acid.

Prenatal Pro™ features mineral chelates with far superior absorption compared to minerals typically found in prenatal multivitamins.

A daily serving of Prenatal Pro™ provides adequate amounts of calcium and magnesium for healthy bone and muscle development. Inclusion of healthy amounts of vitamins D and K allow for proper directing of calcium to hard tissues, such as bone and teeth, and not to the soft tissues. Ferrochel chelated iron not only has high bioavailability but also excellent tolerability. It does not cause constipation like so many iron sources do. Iodine is an important mineral for infants and an important inclusion to this formula, as research has shown that iodine deficiency in infancy can lead to learning disability and lowered achievement motivation.

Prenatal Pro™ now provides 200 mcg of Iodine in each serving, the minimum level recommended during pregnancy and postpartum by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Prenatal Pro™ is also designed to prevent the fatigue that is so common during pregnancy. Vitamin B6, found in Prenatal Pro™, is known to improve pregnancy nausea.

  • What is NatureFolate in this supplement? at 9/28/11 7:53 AM
    • Hello there,

Question: Is the folic in this supplement l-methylfolate? Thanks!
    • Greetings from HealthE Goods! Thank you for your question. Upon consulting with the manufacturer, Design for Health, they advised that the primary folate in this supplement is folinic acid mixed with a natural-occurring mixture of vegetable powder. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Best Regards, Brandon Customer Support HealthE Goods Team

  • Prenatal Pro Dietary Supplement at 11/4/11 11:20 AM
    • Hello,

I take 1 dietary supplement per day. I am not pregnant or a lactating mother. I am 53 -years old and simply feel this is a great vitamin.

My question is can I take more than 1 per day (i.e., the recommended 6 capsules per day)?

      With thanks
      Mary Ann
    • Hi Mary Ann - Prenatal Pro by Designs for Health is a great prenatal. I do not recommend it for those who are not pregnant or menstruating as it contains high levels of folate and iron. Iron is not typically low in non-menstruating women unless there are some health issues occurring. You may be interested in Optimal Multivitamin as it is more comprehensive than Prenatal Pro. Optimal Multivitamin also does not contain Iron or high levels of folate. It also contains chelated minerals and active forms of nutrients. You may find Optimal Multivitamin here: http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-multivitamin-240-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html I recommend you consider 3 capsules at breakfast and 3 at lunch. Taking EPA/DHA daily may also be useful for you. EPA/DHA supports healthy neurological function, protects cell membranes and promotes healthy skin. Consider 2 capsules of Optimal Fish Oil daily with a meal - any time of day. http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-fish-oil-60-softgels.html In health, Dr Ben

  • Vegetarian 19-year -old Daughter at 11/4/11 2:46 PM
    • Hello again,

Thank you for the recommendation listed above for me to take in lieu of the Prenatal Pro.

I wish to add that my 19-year-old daughter (vegetarian) is also taking this Prenatal Pro vitamin. Is there something else you recommend for her? As well, what do you think of Krill Omega-3 tablets for vegetarians (for me not me).

      With thanks,
      Mary Ann
    • Mary Ann - You're welcome ;) Your 19 yr old daughter may also take the Optimal Multivitamin - 3 capsules twice daily. Make sure to never take a multivitamin within 6 hours of going to sleep as it may keep you awake. I also recommend the Optimal Fish Oil capsules - two capsules once daily with a meal. I do not recommend tablets typically for anyone. If you are look for a vegetarian oil, I recommend the Body Balance Oil by BodyBio: http://www.healthegoods.com/body-balance-oil-16-ounces-bodybio.html A probiotic should by used by nearly everyone unless they prepare their own fermented foods. I recommend you consider taking 1 capsule of ProBiota 12 after dinner on a nightly basis - you and your daughter. http://www.healthegoods.com/probiota-12-maximum-support-50-billion-cfus-twelve-species-probiotic-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html These are the top three recommendations for daily routine health maintenance. If you want to step up a little and support detoxification (due to polluted air, food, water, office and home), I recommend 1 capsule of NAC daily taken anytime of day with a small amount of food and a glass of water: http://www.healthegoods.com/nac-n-acetyl-l-cysteine-90-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html Of course - not thinking - ( I'm heading to the park with my boys) - Vitamin D3 is critical. Ensure you and your daughter are taking at least 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily. During the winter months, you may need more. Typically recommendations are 1,000 IU per 25 pounds of body weight when in little sun exposure on bare skin on arms and legs. Consider 1 to 2 drops daily of Vitamin D360 - this is a vegetarian vitamin D3 at 2,000 IU per DROP (not dropperful) in a base of pure extra virgin olive oil). http://www.healthegoods.com/liquid-vitamin-d360-1-oz.html Those should keep you and your daughter running well! Other questions, please do ask. We all may need extra support depending on the situation - stress, sleep, digestion, hormones, energy and so on. I aim to improve lifestyle and dietary choices first and foremost and then proceed to supplementation as needed. In health, Dr Ben

  • Follow up to 1st Question at 11/14/11 8:50 AM
    • After reading the first question asked, I'm wondering if this is an appropriate multivitamin for someone who is homozygous mthfr c677t as the folate blend is composed of folinic acid and not l-methylfolate?
    • Hello - Prenatal Pro would not be my first choice for those with MTHFR. I recommend using methylated folate instead as you stated. You may find L-5-methylfolate in Optimal Multivitamin by Seeking Health. http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-multivitamin-240-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html In fact, in all Seeking Health products, we use only L-5-methylfolate. You will find L-5-methylfolate in Optimal Multivitamin, Kid's Optimal Multivitamin, B Complex Plus, HomocysteX and L-5-MTHF. http://www.healthegoods.com/brands/seeking-health.html HomocysteX by Seeking Health is specifically designed to help support healthy levels of homocysteine. For more information on MTHFR, please visit www.MTHFR.net In health, Dr Ben

  • Pregnancy considerations at 11/14/11 1:45 PM
    • Hi Dr. Ben,

Thanks for your quick response to the above question. I'm specifically looking for a prenatal vitamin with l-5-methylfolate as I just found out I'm pregnant :) Do you know of any? I haven't been able to find a comprehensive vitamin with only l-5-methylfolate, I did see that the Basic Prenatal by Thorne Research has 500 mcg of 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate. I'm currently taking 1 Homosyste X along with the Prenatal Pro Vitamins, fish oil, and a baby aspirin daily.

      Thanks!
    • You're welcome ;) Caught me while answering questions again - so fast twice today! Congratulations on your pregnancy! Prenatal Essentials by Xymogen uses 400 mcg of methylfolate and 400 mcg of folinic acid http://www.xymogen.com/2008/formula.asp?code=000322 Designs for Health using NatureFolate is likely sufficient if you are also taking HomocysteX. I don't recommend over doing methylfolate as too much can be a problem. Everything must be balanced. Which MTHFR mutation do you have? I assume you have one! ;) That said, I would consider Optimal Krill Oil and Flow Fx in order to further support healthy fibrin levels. Optimal Krill Oil: consider 2 capsules a day http://www.healthegoods.com/optimal-krill-oil.html Flow Fx: consider 1 capsule 12 hours apart. http://www.healthegoods.com/flow-fx-60-vegetarian-capsules.html Active CoQH: consider 1 capsule daily http://www.healthegoods.com/active-coqh-60-softgels.html It is critical to keep fibrin levels in a healthy range and support the MTHFR defect which seems like you are doing pretty well. The added Flow Fx may be needed here - I am not sure. All I can say is if my wife was pregnant and she had a MTHFR mutation, especially C677T homozygous or compound heterozygous, she would be taking Flow Fx twice a day. I spoke with a women recently about MTHFR and her 10 miscarriages. When she added nattokinase at 100 mg twice a day, used progesterone suppositories to replenish her low progesterone and take methylfolate with methylcobalamin and pyridoxal-5-phosphate, she finally had her daughter. Make sure your doctors check your progesterone levels ASAP. If low, get on a progesterone suppository or whatever your doctors recommend. Taking 6,000 IU a day of Vitamin D3 is important while pregnant. Have your doctor test your vitamin D3 levels as needed. Consider taking 3 drops a day of Liquid Vitamin D360. http://www.healthegoods.com/liquid-vitamin-d360-1-oz.html Keep me posted how your pregnancy is progressing! I have to state that none is this is treatment advice, prescription or a diagnosis. It is merely information for you to consider and take to your doctor. In health, Dr Ben

  • Nattokinase info at 11/18/11 8:52 AM
    • Thanks again for your response, I appreciate the information here and on the MTHFR.net site. I'm homozygous C677t, I found this out after 4 chemical pregnancies, I started taking Homosyste x with my prenatal and fish oil and I'm now 5 weeks pregnant! I recently stopped taking aspirin because I think it was making my heart race at times. I have been trying to find more information about taking nattokinas during pregnancy any recources would be appreciated! I'm not sure if I need to be on blood thinners as my PT and PTT levels were normal when I wasn't taking any blood tinners and my antithrombin 3 levels were 32 mg/dL (slightly high). My homocystine levels were normal when checked recently (on Homosyste x). Neither my OB or Perinatologist (saw once didn't know much about MTHFR/unwilling to learn) think I need to be taking a blood thinner. I'm still trying to find a Docotr who will check my fibrin levels and methylation profile but I have been unsuccessful. Do you know of anyone in the Flagstaff/Phoenix area? Thanks!
      Lisa
    • Lisa - Talk with your doctor about the aspirin. If it is making your heart race, definitely stop. Tell your doctor about your racing heart. To find a doctor near you, use these websites: www.naturopathic.org www.AAEMonline.org www.functionalmedicine.org I am going to stop recommending the Methylation Profile by Doctor's Data. I am not finding it useful. Instead, I am recommended the 40 Amino Acid profile along with the Organix Acids profile - both from Metametrix. These tell me a lot of information which is required to know if your levels are in balance or not. If you'd like to order them, they are available here at HealthE Goods. I would try getting your doctor to order them and insurance may cover them - try that route first. I do not have resources on nattokinase except for a women with MTHFR C677T tells me it was the only thing that worked for her while pregnant. She kept miscarrying until she started taking 100 mg of nattokinase twice a day. Coincidence? Not sure. Make sure your docs check your progesterone levels and your thyroid levels. Keep me posted!
