Why choose HomocysteX by Seeking Health?
The body’s methylation process is vital for formation of essential cell components such as proteins, nucleicacids found in DNA and RNA, and phospholipids that form nerve cell membranes. By transferring methyl groups (three hydrogen atoms bonded to a carbon atom, known as CH3) from one molecule to another, methylation turns on genes, activates enzymes, drives detoxification reactions, influences hormone secretion, and helps maintain normal metabolism of homocysteine, a potentially harmful amino acid metabolite. Unfortunately, poor nutrition, oxidative stress, infections, metabolic defects, and various other factors can impair methylation processes throughout the body. To nutritionally support optimal methylation capacity, this product supplies folate, vitamin B12, and B6. Key Ingredients, Benefits and Actions of Homocystex by Seeking Health Provides vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin: Vitamin B12 is crucial to the formation of healthy red blood cells, energy production, nervous system support, cognitive function, and homocysteine regulation. Although cyanocobalamin is the most commonly used form of vitamin B12 in dietary supplements, it must be converted by enzymes into an active coenzyme form to be useful. Nutritional inadequacies, enzyme defects, and tissue abnormalities can reduce the body’s ability to synthesize the active forms of B12. In contrast, vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin is a “body-ready” form with metabolic benefits that may not be provided by other forms of vitamin B12. It appears that methylcobalamin may be particularly useful for individuals with impaired methylation capacity, including those with elevated homocysteine or neurological impairments. Supplies an active form of folate: This B-vitamin is crucial for generating red blood cells, regulating homocysteine metabolism, assisting DNA repair, and supporting neurological processes. Metafolin® L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF), an active form of folate, is included in this product to help ensure more immediate effects on metabolism compared to folic acid, the form of folate commonly used in fortified foods and supplements. Contains the active, coenzyme form of B6: Vitamin B6 is necessary for many aspects of health including protein and amino acid metabolism, red blood cell formation, normal brain function, and synthesis of antibodies important for optimal immune responses. Pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (P-5-P) is a body-ready form with metabolic benefits that may not be provided by other forms of vitamin B6. Although pyridoxine hydrochloride is the most commonly used form of vitamin B6 in dietary supplements, it must be converted to the active coenzyme form, P-5-P, to be useful. Nutritional inadequacies, certain medications, compromised liver function, and enzyme defects can reduce the body’s ability to convert B6 forms such as pyridoxine hydrochloride to P-5-P. In contrast, vitamin B6 as P-5-P is already fully “active” and readily usable, as it does not require further transformation in the body. What makes HomocysteX superior to other B-Vitamin supplements on the market? HomocysteX by Seeking Health supplies bioactive forms of four essential B-vitamins to synergistically support methylation processes and normal homocysteine metabolism. This formula is exceptional for those with defective MTHFR genes. Taking just 5-MTHF is not sufficient for those with MTHFR mutations which is why Dr Ben provides these other ingredients to help lower homocysteine and support the methylation cycle. Individuals most at increased risk for vitamin B12, folate, and vitamin B6 deficiencies are the elderly, vegetarians, and individuals with ulcers, Crohn’s disease, and bacterial overgrowth. This dietary supplement may be especially beneficial for persons with impaired gastrointestinal absorptive function due to aging, illness, or surgery.

I was taking several things my doctor recommended to help my MTHFR double mutation. After 5 months there was very little change. I took the Homocystex and after 1 month my health changed dramatically. I recommended it to my sister who has this same mutation and she had the same results. Thanks so much for a product that is helping so many.

Hello -
Most individuals do well with methylcobalamin when taken orally - especially when taken on an empty stomach or away from meals/food by 20 minutes.
People with pernicious anemia should take sublingual methylcobalamin and/or injectable B12.
If you have low stomach acid or pernicious anemia, then taking HomocysteX is not your best option.
The best option for you in this case would be Sublingual Active B12 with Metafolin.

Hello -
Please read this article on prenatal supplementation and MTHFR.
Low vitamin D3 can be replenished by taking a liquid vitamin D3 at 2,000 IU per drop. Consider taking 5 drops daily until your levels get where they need to be. Then once pregnant, reduce to 3 drops daily - and also take this amount while breast feeding.
Low iron is also known to be a cause in low vitamin D3. Consider having your doctors check your 'serum ferritin' levels. If they are low, then supplementing with a quality iron supplement that is easy on your stomach is needed. Consider taking 1 a day before meals.
In the article I mention above, I also recommend:
- Active CoQH: 1 capsule daily which contains 50 mg. Take daily with breakfast or lunch- Probiota 12: 1 capsule daily after dinner
In terms of taking HomocysteX and Folgard - that may be excessive. However, HomocysteX has the more active forms of folate and B12 and b6 compared to Folgard.
Folgard does not contain the more active forms of folate or the good forms of vitamin B12.
Taking a capsule of HomocysteX in the AM upon rising and your Folgard before lunch may be a good combination. Please do run this by your doctor and see what they recommend or if they are ok with this thought process.
Baby aspirin may be a good idea as there are many clotting disorders that are not commonly screened for - and some clotting disorders are passed on by the father's genetics which do affect the health of the developing baby.

Hello Donna -
I cannot safely recommend anything that has to do with D dimer or clotting times. These are things your physician must monitor and tightly control for your safety.
Controlling your levels of inflammation and homocysteine are definitely supportive of reducing risk of blood clots. HomocysteX does support healthy levels of homocysteine but I have no way to tell you if it will also enable you to come of any blood thinners.
Personally, I do recommend staying on some type of blood thinner and anti-clotting drug or supplement along with anti-inflammatory and homocysteine support.

Hello -
I recommend starting slowly and more easily.
The Sublingual Active B12 with Metafolin is a great nutrient to start with as it combines vitamin B12 and methylfolate in a tablet that goes under the tongue.
Start with 1/4 tablet first thing upon rising and watch their behavior for a few days. If improving or no change, then increase to 1/2 tablet and again watch. Keep doing this until you find the amount that works best - always increasing by 1/4 tablet.
If you find anxiety, irritability, headaches, or other symptoms appear which were not there prior to giving this supplement, then reduce the amount given or stop it.
Please work with your doctor on this.
Should you need a consult for this complicated scenario(s), please do know that I am available to help you. You may set one up by calling 800-547-9812

Given your high homocysteine, I recommend the HomocysteX Plus along with the Sublingual Active B12 with Metafolin. Use the Sublingual Active B12 with Metafolin first for a week or so - then switch to HomocysteX Plus.
The form of B6 in HomocysteX Plus, P-5-P, is typically well-tolerated.
HomocysteX Plus does provide greater nutrient power to help support healthy homocysteine levels.
I also recommend ProBiota Sensitive - take 1 capsule after dinner. This may help support your food intolerances by improving your T regulatory cell balance.
Hi there,
Thank you for your question! Are you taking the P5P as a separate supplement or is it in combination with methlyfolate? Typically, the side effect of a headache signifies being overmethylated. You are simply overdriving your neurotransmitter production and increasing methylation past the healthy point. You may want to read and understand the side effects from methylfolate so you understand if you are taking too much or not: http://mthfr.net/methylfolate-side-effects/2012/03/01/
For people who are already over methylated, HomocysteX is not for them. A good way to see if you are over methylated is to check your histamine levels. Low histamine = overmethylated. If methylation is not a concern, Homocystex is a great product. In regard to dosage, Dr. Ben recommends starting out with very small dosage and slowly---1 capsule of HomocysteX for a few days, see how you feel and then increase from there. It is not recommended to take HomocysteX within 5 hours of going to bed as it may keep you awake. Eventually, 3 capsules is a pretty standard dosage of HomocysteX, but remember….increase slowly! Example regimens for 3 capsules are: 2 capsules in the AM and 1 capsule at lunch or around 2 PM or so. Or, 1 capsule in the AM, one at lunch and another at least 5 hours before bedtime. This way the blood levels of these critical nutrients stay where they should be and more of the nutrients are absorbed.
Remember, start simply and expand on your regimen as long as you feel good or are noticing an improvement. If you take too many things at once or too high a dosage and don’t feel so hot, you may not know what is causing it. Also, if taking a lot of things at once, a person may feel great initially for a few weeks, but then may get not so hot feelings down the road. This requires alteration in dosages and what is being taken. In short, introduce one new supplement at a time and start with very low dosages.
One common treatment for SIBO are probiotics. There are numerous explanations for how probiotic bacteria might benefit individuals with SIBO. However, the beneficial action has not been identified clearly. It may be that the probiotic bacteria inhibit other bacteria in the intestine that may be causing symptoms, or it may be that the probiotic bacteria act on the host's intestinal immune system to suppress inflammation. I recommend the Probiota 12 by Seeking Health. It’s a wonderful probiotic! http://healthygoods.com/pro-biota-12-powder-maximum-support-200-billion-cfus-twelve-species-60-grams-seeking-health.html
I recommend you take ¼ teaspoon of ProBiota 12 nightly about 5-10 minutes after dinner. If you tolerate ¼ teaspoon, with time you may try increasing to ½ teaspoon. You may likely notice improved digestion, less gas and bloating, improved immune function, improved skin health and less fatigue.
I recommend the use of Vitamin D360 which is a liquid vitamin D3. It contains 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per DROP. Start with 2 DROPS per day and test your vitamin D3 levels every three to five months or as recommended by your doctor. Vitamin D360 is found here: http://healthygoods.com/seeking-health-vitamin-d360-2-000-iu-per-drop.html
I hope this gets you off on the right track.
