Why choose Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable by Seeking Health ?
Almost everyone has experienced digestive discomforts such as gas, bloating, indigestion, gastric reflux, constipation, or diarrhea at one time or another. Eating the wrong foods, overeating, undue stress, or intestinal infections are among the common causes. While such problems are occasional for most of us, impaired digestion and its adverse health consequences can be frequent and troublesome problems for others. When the digestive process malfunctions, malabsorption of nutrients affects overall health and can potentially lead to intestinal dysbiosis and other unhealthy conditions. Undigested or partially digested food can putrefy in the gut and produce toxins that may then leak into the bloodstream, causing fatigue, headache, or behavioral symptoms. Irritation and inflammation occur, leading to an increase in intestinal permeability, or "leaky gut." Undigested protein molecules that cross the intestinal lining may trigger immunological reactions such as allergies, asthma, and skin rashes.
A healthy digestive system secretes acids and enzymes that break down foods into the most basic components needed to nourish the body. A variety of different enzymes, each with unique cleaving actions, are required for optimal breakdown of foods. Enzyme production is a key part in the digestive process that is especially susceptible to malfunction. Certain health conditions may adversely affect the body’s ability to produce its own enzymes, resulting in fewer enzymes or diminished secretion of enzymes by the pancreas, stomach, and brush-border membrane of the small intestine. When endogenous enzyme production is compromised, ingestion of supplemental enzymes such as protease, amylase, and lipase can help efficiently digest food and alleviate occasional digestion-related discomforts. However, individuals with more complex digestive issues may require enzymes with greater specificity to most fully support digestion of problematic food components such as casein, gluten, and lactose and other disaccharides and to lessen related irritation and inflammation in the intestinal tract.
Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable by Seeking Health provides a comprehensive group of enzymes to specially support individuals with maldigestion, malabsorption, dysbiosis, and intestinal inflammation.
Key Benefits and actions of Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable :
Promotes optimal GI function and digestive comfort. Enzymes in Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable can improve intestinal function, providing temporary relief from flatulence, heartburn, and other digestive complaints. By facilitating more complete breakdown of macronutrients, this comprehensive group of enzymes supports improved nutritional status and reduces the potential adverse effects of food components such as incompletely digested casein, gluten, and lactose. Vital-Zymes™ Complete may be helpful for individuals with maldigestion, malabsorption, dysbiosis, and intestinal inflammation.
Supports against carbohydrate intolerance and dysbiosis. Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable contains a wide spectrum of disaccharidase enzymes to assist optimal cleaving of sugars including lactose (milk sugar), maltose (from cereal grains), sucrose (table sugar), and amylopectin (starch) molecules into their absorbable monosaccharide forms. Insufficient disaccharidase production by the small intestine can cause carbohydrate malabsorption and physical discomfort. Lactose intolerance is the most common form of carbohydrate intolerance. Incompletely digested sugars or starch can be fermented by pathogenic organisms and may contribute to yeast overgrowth (candidiasis) and dysbiosis. Reduced disaccharidase levels are observed in many children and adults with chronic diarrhea. Children with dyspepsia typically exhibit low activity of duodenal maltase, glucoamylase, and/or disaccharidases.
Supplies DPP-IV activity specific for breakdown of casein, gluten, and other exorphin peptides. Protein molecules require multiple enzymes for complete digestion. Proteases degrade proteins into peptides of 10 to 20 amino acids in length. Peptidases then complete the process by splitting peptides into single free-form amino acids that are used by the body. Incompletely digested peptides from casein (casomorphins), gluten (gluteomorphins), soy, or yeast may adversely affect central nervous system function in some individuals. Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable provides ample amounts of peptidase enzymes that express dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) activity that is especially effective in breaking down exorphin (opiate-acting) peptides before they can be absorbed. While enzymes with DPP-IV activity are normally found in the cells lining the intestinal tract, it is thought that many individuals on the autism spectrum may have a deficiency or defect in DPP-IV activity. Protease enzymes in Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable first cleave intact casein molecule to split off b-casomorphin fragment, an opiate-acting peptide. Enzymes with DPP-IV peptidase activity then cleave B-casomorphin after the first proline linkage forming di- and tripeptides with no opiod activity.
Helps protect GI tissue from inflammation. Inflammation of gastrointestinal tissues results from various causes such as undigested or partially digested food, ingested or endogenous toxins, intestinal pathogens, and exposure to allergenic substances. In addition to facilitating more complete digestion of potentially irritating food components, Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable supplies Serratia peptidase, a unique endopeptidase enzyme that helps protect sensitive gastrointestinal tissue from irritation and subsequent inflammation that can adversely affect tissue health and intestinal comfort.
What do the enzymes in Pro-Digestion Intensive and Pro-Digestion Intensive Chewable do?

SUGGESTED USE
CAPSULES: Children: Two capsules per meal or as directed by a physician. Adults: Two to four capsules per meal. Capsules may be opened and contents mixed in a small amount of food or beverage followed by ingestion of regular food. Should not be mixed with hot food or beverage as this may reduce enzyme activity. For best results it is recommended that the enzymes be taken at the beginning of each meal. Dosing should be healthygoodsd on the amount of foods ingested. Young children may start with 1/3 to 1/2 capsule. Older children may start with a full capsule per meal. These amounts can be gradually increased over a period of a week or two to reach the suggested dose.CHEWABLE TABLETS: Chew two or more tablets at the beginning of each meal or as directed by a physician.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
None reported. No upper limit has been established for oral enzyme supplementation. Animal studies indicate that extremely large doses of enzymes may be ingested without toxicity or adverse effect. Dosing is healthygoodsd on the amount of food ingested (content and size of a meal) and not specifically by body weight or age. When mixing capsule contents in foods, avoid contact with eyes and inhalation of powder as it may cause some irritation to mucus membranes.CONTRAINDICATIONS
Large amounts of proteolytic enzymes should not be taken in the absence of normal gastric mucosa. Do not use if gastritis, peptic ulcer, or heartburn is present. If pregnant or nursing, consult your healthcare practitioner prior to use. This product may not be appropriate for those with known allergies to Aspergillus enzyme proteins, though non-specific mold allergies do not necessarily preclude use of fungal-healthygoodsd enzymes.DRUG INTERACTIONS
Carbohydrases may increase intestinal glucose absorption and may thus interfere with the efficacy of oral hypoglycemic drugs or insulin.

This has been a great supplement for me. I am breastfeeding and it is very helpful to take these enzymes with my meals to break down all the foods so that my baby is not as affected by what I eat. These do not cause any nausea or GI upset for me. Also, these are so convenient as well to be able to take these at any time because they are chewable. I really recommend these! (Posted on 10/17/12)
